We usually think of bolt cutters as for industrial use, and they are. However, there are times when they will be a godsend around the shop or home. Nothing will cut hardened steel except a diamond or TCT hacksaw (or a torch), but these will shear normal lock shackles, chain links and hasps, braided or solid wire, and other round mild-steel or non-ferrous material. The 14" Bolt Cutter has a cutting capacity of 3/16" and the 24" a cutting capacity of 9/32". If you ruin a cutter set, simply replace it.
Get both Bolt Cutters plus 2 sets of extra heads (for each size ) and save. Made in China, these are certified to meet tough German TUV quality standards. Both sizes are recommended, as there is a large increase in capacity and leverage, but the 14" size is easier to use and it is small enough to fit in almost any toolbox.
