Prized by woodworkers, carvers and knife enthusiasts, Natural Arkansas Oil Whetstones are among the finest and most popular abrasive sharpening stones anywhere. Extremely hard and lasting a lifetime, they produce an ultra-fine polished cutting edge. Available in various grades and shapes, all of our Arkansas stones are singularly cut and finished by hand. Bench stones come in a fitted wooden box.

Soft Arkansas stone is an all purpose sharpening stone popular with craftsmen, woodworkers, and even butchers and chefs who desire a keen, polished edge on their knives and tools in a minimum amount of time. Stone dimensions are 6" x 2" x 1/2".

Translucent and the fabled Black Arkansas are extra-fine stones in the True Hard grade category - the finest grade available. For an extremely fine polished edge on knives, chisels and plane blades. Translucent stones are 2" wide and 1/2" thick and available in lengths of 4 & 6". Black Arkansas Stones are also 1/2" thick and come 6" long in widths of 2" & 2-1/2", as well as a longer version 8" x 2".

Wedge-shaped and contoured, Translucent Slip Stones are essential for sharpening carving tools, ideal for touching up chisels and plane blades and provide a means of sharpening hard to reach recesses and edges on tools, instruments, dies and molds. Ours is 4" x 1-1/2" x 1/4" x 1/8".

We recommend our Premium Honing Oil for use with these stones. During sharpening, micro-particles of steel are removed from a blade which can clog the stone and reduce its effectiveness and longevity. To avoid this, use oil when sharpening and also to clean your stone after each use (ideally). Our Honing Oil is also a very good light-duty, all-purpose oil for your household needs. Available in 3 oz. & 16 oz. containers.

Arkansas Novaculite (99.9% pure silica) was first used by Native Americans for cutting tools and weapons made from the stone, with evidence available that trading between tribes resulted in distribution and use of the stone thousands of miles from its source. Commercial production began in the 1800's and today the stones are used the world over.

  • Decent Product

Joe Glosson, 2/12/2014 This stone has replaced one used by three generation of my family. So far it is a good addition - used mostly on knives. GW's tools and supplies are certainly better than its packing and shipping. When I opened the wooden box of this stone, it fell apart into three pieces. And this was the least of the damage in this shipment.
  • Very Good

Joe Glosson, 2/12/2014 This lubricant works really well with the recently purchased stone as well as much older stones. Best oil" I've used."
  • Excellent Stone!

Dan Westphal, 4/12/2013 No disappointments here, this stone puts an amazing edge on my knives! I use diamond stones to grind the desired bevel, and then finish up by polishing the edge with this stone.
