We are great enthusiasts for the handiness of traditional oil lamps and for their lovely, soft light. In fact, one of the original makers of oil lamps was a company named "Dietz" located right here in New York in the 19th century. These are the only lamps of this style we have found that are not made in Asia.

After a long search, we found a high quality German maker. These are virtually impossible to accidentally blow out. Fill with kerosene (or lamp oil). Adjust the wick until you get the highest, smoke-free flame. There is a built in "lifter" to raise the glass (for lighting and extinguishing).

These are 10" high to the crown, 15-1/4" with the bail fully raised. Freshly filled with kerosene, they will burn for about 20 hours. We offer these in four durable, baked-on lacquer colors and in Natural Bright Tinned. These make great presents for friends and family.

A World apart from common Junk
Reviewed By:  Kenneth A Edelstein (New York, New York)
I was amazed and delighted at how bright this lantern is. We take it camping and leave out on the table overnight as a "night light". The "el cheepo" it replaces lasted half a year. I am confident this will, with reasonable care; last for many years. The filler cap goes on with a precision feel, the lifter works "just right" and (joy of joy)it's easy to "lift the top" to remove the globe for cleaning! I have the "tin" one and it looks and feels great. I use "Klean Burn" a kerosene with very low sulphide content and there is no odor; helped by the very complete combustion of the design. I am a "happy camper".

QUALITY MADE
Reviewed By:  KENT GABLE (ST. AUGUSTINE, FLORIDA)
For many years I have enjoyed the mellow, warm glow of an oil lantern in camp however finding one that is made with quality workmanship has always been difficult. Even Dietz which was once proudly made in America is being made in Asia and the reviews I have been reading indicate that it is of inferior quality. This lantern is not and is still a quality made product that I am sure will offer years of service. I don't mind paying a little more if the product is well made and this one is.

the best

There is a certain satisfaction in using the best of anything. The Feuerhand 276 is the best of its' kind. It is bright - maybe 6 candle power max. It won't leak [unless you hold it upside down]. Weather can't blow it out, and I especially appreciate the suprax glass globe that will not shatter when hot and exposed to rain or snow. I have the tinned version that also looks very festive for winter holiday use - and furthermore the 19th century had much to recommend it over today.
