Canadian-Made Razor Scraper |
Simply a better made tool
Far superior to the razor scrapers available locally, and well worth the cost. Made of brass plated steel, thicker than the usual scraper, and has a better fit in your hand. The edges are rubber-bound so that it won't slip. The scraper features two positive-lock blade-stop positions - open and closed - for secure transport and safe operation, with quick and easy blade change. Uses standard single edge razor blades, and one is included with each tool. Order 5 and pass them around.

| Good - but not as good as described |

Jeff (Pensacola, FL) |
| Got this one in the mail today and compared it to a few run-of-the-mill scrapers I had in the junk drawer/toolbox. I'd added this to another purchase simply because cheap tools bother me and the chance to replace a junky scraper with a nice one seemed like a pretty good deal for $5. So anyway, here are my first impressions:
1) Not much sturdier than normal scrapers. The copy says the steel is thicker than normal scrapers and I rather doubt it. Feels a slight bit heftier in the hand, but that's probably due to an extra half-inch of length and the rubberized hand grip. Not sure it's built any better than a normal scraper.
2) The brass is snazzy looking and definitely makes it stand out. To judge by looks alone, this is a hands-down winner.
3) It only has 2 positive locking positions, not 3. Not sure this matters, but it's different than the product description.
4) It does not lock-up any stronger than most other scrapers. Of the two other scrapers I had on hand, this new scraper had a stronger lock than one of them and about equal lock-up to the other one. Anyone who has ever used a scraper has probably experienced the lock giving out, so a strong lock would have been the most desired thing about this new scraper. That it's only equal to a regular store-bought scraper is disappointing
5. It IS definitely more comfortable in the hand. On the plus side, the rubber strip along the edge of the bottom half of the handle feels good. On the downside, it's likely to come off after awhile or with abuse. Still, if ergonomics are a big deal to you, this might make it worth your while...
All in all, this is a bit better than normal scrapers, but not by much. I'm glad I own it, but wouldn't necessarily recommend anyone else spend $5 on it unless the ergonomics would make it worth it for them. |
