English Double-Pinion Hand Drill |
Silky-Smooth Action
A really good hand drill allows more careful and controlled work, and is very hard to find. It is an integral part of woodworking, even in this day and age of portable electric tools. We have long carried an inexpensive one made in India, which is very popular and a solid value. But many customers have asked for a European-made, better quality model. Here it is. - Chuck capacity 5/16"
- Overall length 12-1/2"
- Made in Great Britain.

| This could be a good drill but for several faults. Foremost the crank handle is too short to have enough power to work well. I have a dozen hand drills and use them regularly. My older Footprints -- similar design, same color have a 3 3/4" crank and this has 2 1/4" The cheaper Indian drill has a long crank. This short crank makes the drill practically worthless. I could go to a machinist and have a longer crank made and drill and attach it but then one must wonder if the new aluminum gear will hold up like the old steel ones?? And this is a minimal chuck compared to the older heavy duty chuck. Too bad! |

| This is one of the best hand drills. Pricey, but the less expensive ones deteriorate faster. I use them in a children's woodworking studio. I just wish that the centerscrew was able to be adjusted when the gear starts to get wobbly. |
