From time to time you need something to pound on that won't be damaged, yet will provide a good hard supportive surface. Most shops don't have an anvil, as they are usually too big, heavy and costly. They are also definitely not portable. That's what makes this tool so useful.
It has two broad faces, 3-1/4" by 1-3/4" wide. Place on the bench or floor and pound away on it. And it weighs a good 2-1/4 lbs, so you can use it to pound away with also. The broad faces are ideal for squashing tin cans, pounding in garden stakes - all sorts of things. It's simple and effective, like a well designed tool should be.
