Smaller plane excels at rough and finish work
This tool is based on the rare Stanley #164 and is essentially a shorter version of Lie-Nielsen's low angle Jack plane. It has an adjustable mouth and massive blade set at 12 degrees. Because of its slightly smaller size we call it a smoothing plane. It excels at both rough and finish work, however, and can be easily converted from one to the other.
Its weight gives it real authority in your hand. It also has a unique overhead Bailey-type blade adjuster, which gives you silky smooth fingertip adjustment. The body is flat ground ductile iron. Other parts are bronze, brass, tool steel and cherry wood.- Plane body: 9-3/4" long
- Blade width: 2"
- Blade thickness: 3/16"
- Weight: 3-3/4 lbs.
