The handle is 16" and the blade 15" long. Typically, the "shakes" are split off 90 degrees to the annular rings. The back of the froe is struck with a mallet and as the wood begins to split, a quick wrenching motion on the handle completes the job. The 3-1/4 lb. Mini Maul can be used as a "striker."
