These Hand Ratchet Locking Clamps spring open, rather than closed, making them much more efficient to operate. Just press the "trigger" and the clamp opens fully. They have a nice, solid feel in the hand, and are well designed and made. We like them a whole lot better than steel spring clamps.

Great clamps

Great fast clamps with good gripping power for all different jobs. Won't mark up work. one thing to keep in mind is that the harder you sqeeze the clamp the harder it is to release it. For the jobs you would use the clamps for that should'nt be a problem because you can apply more than enough pressure without overdoing it.

Multiple use ratchet clamps

I received a set of these clamps as a gift this Christmas. At first I didn't notice a very unique and important feature that they offer. Not only do the orange pads at the end of the jaws clamp in the traditional spring clamp fashion but the insides of the jaws are set up to be clamps for large round objects like pipes. This feature saved me when I had to remove a drain trap to recover a contact lens that had fallen down the drain and the only tool I had with me was one of these new clamps. I was able to slide the clamp completely around the pipe, ratchet it down and remove the trap. The teeth on the inside of the jaws grabbed and loosened the pipe fitting that otherwise was not budging. Other good features: they are easy to position without having to strain against the spring to keep the jaws open and you can adjust the amount of pressure you want by clicking down the ratchet--something you can't do with traditional clamps. Why only a 4 rating? If the jaws were made out of metal instead of a composite material they would have been a sure 5. I have not had them long enough to know how they will hold up over time but I really like these multi-function clamps.
