The Spade has a blade 5-1/2" long with an exceptionally pointed shape for easy penetration in hard soil. But the sides spread out in the middle so it also has good carrying capacity. The 6" long Trowel has three sharp cutting serrations on each side to sever roots and other fiber. They are first class.

Trowel set

Trowels are heavy duty steel should last a lifetime. Both work very well in rocky southern Missouri soil. Handles are comfortable, don't know how long they will last, but could probably find a replacement easily. The best trowels I have ever seen.

These tools were smaller than I expected and much sharper! The are very sturdy and worked well to add soil around a transplant with pin point precision. I don't expect these to fall apart anytime soon.
