We found these gorgeous hardwood handled 2 lb. and 4 lb. Hand Sledges in China. Their balance is perfect. The 2 lb. Hand Sledge can be a brute if grabbed at the end of the handle, or as delicate as a small hammer if held near the head. The 4 lb. version has the same characteristics - it's just twice as heavy. For demolition, driving splitting wedges or spikes, a hand sledge concentrates power.

I give it a 3 based on looks alone. It is a handsome hammer. Unfortunately, in the case of the one I received, "tough hand sledge" it wasn't. The head came flying off after 3 swings! I'm going to find another more appropriate handle and give it another chance.
