Excellent, but less expensive, working tools make for a very solid value |

This writer is a fan of splitting rounds with a 3 lb. hand sledge on steel wedges. (It’s probably because I have trouble accurately aiming a long handled full-sized Maul, but that’s just the way it is.) And I’ve got to say that this new 3-1/4 lb. Mini Maul with its 16" long Hickory handle is a whole lot better than any hand sledge that I have ever used. It simply delivers more momentum accurately – which translates into splitting force.
And although they are not twisted like some of the higher end wedges, these 5 lb., 9" long straight wedges do the job nicely, and are less expensive than many, including our Wetterlings Swedish wedges. By the way, always keep two wedges on hand, in case one gets stuck. We like these tools a lot. Great value. Made in the USA.
