There are many operations in woodworking that require a fine, accurate cut - for example, dovetailing - where a traditional English-style Backsaw excels. A Backsaw is distinguished chiefly by its rigid spine and the superb stability and solid feel which it provides. This extra support prevents twisting or flexing and allows the use of a thinner blade to produce a narrower and cleaner kerf. We offer two excellent examples from Sheffield, England.
The 8" Gent's Saw was originally designed for the "Gentleman Woodworker" and is used today for cutting dovetails and other fine applications. It features a 20 tpi carbon steel blade, a polished brass spine. Our Gent's Saw is comes with a classic Spindle Handle of lacquered beech and finished with a wide brass ferrule. Max. depth of cut 1-1/2". Overall length 13". Weight 6 oz.
The 8" Dovetail Saw is made of the finest carbon steel with a stiff, brushed brass spine. Its traditional closed pistol-grip handle is stained European beech with brass saw nuts. This saw provides an unbelievable degree of control and comfort and is a joy to use. 20 tpi. Max. depth of cut 2-1/4". Overall length 13". Weight 15 oz.
