This rare and fascinating tool is about 40" long. It's actually a measure historically used in the textile business (in Leipzig, East Prussia). As industry toward the end of the 19th Century struggled with the introduction of the metric system of measurement, some areas (and some industries) used the chaos as an excuse to develop their own private measuring techniques. The objective, we speculate, was to secure the special nature of their product in their markets. So the Leipzig textile businesses developed the "Leipzig" inch - which is not an Imperial inch at all (the one that we are used to), but is actually about 15/16". It's a beautiful tool with solid brass fittings and steel pins. For the connoisseur of the exotic and rare.
