The abbreviated, German-forged 16" shaft Mini Pick Axe is the perfect tool when working from a squat or on knees. The overall weight hits the sweet spot between solidity and lightness. It's heavy enough to pry roots and small rocks out of the soil, but light enough to comfortably swing one handed when loosening dirt. The head is 11¾" wide tip to tip, and it's tapered. An oiled ash handle for maximum whip and durability. A hole at the south end of the shaft allows for off-ground storage when not in use.

The Billhook's claim to fame is whacking through small to medium diameter brushy branches or cutting roots. Certainly nothing fancy about it, but its pointed, curved tip makes the job a cinch. They make a great pair.

  • Good to Go

James Huffaker, 2/3/2020 What nobody said, and my favorite thing about it, is that as with all traditional "pick" like objects, the handle separates from the head for carry or storage. That means that I can keep it in my 5 gallon spackle bucket that I keep my garden tools in. If I'm working on the south 40, and the full sized pic mattock is in the shed on the north 40, to a certain extent, do what I need to do, without making the trip back to the shed., and that's huge.Another reviewer commented that the handle was too thin. Would it be an option to cut down a pick handle? Only suggestion I have would be to make a full on mini pick mattock. The wider mattock simple works better to move dirt.
  • Great for metal detecting

Daniel Joe oconnor, 7/9/2019 Great for metal detecting when you are on your hands and knees with your pinpointer and your signal indicates your target is between a couple boulders. The handle grip is kinda small for large hands and it will need a coat of spar varnish to withstand the harsh desert environment. The handle had to be small enuf to fit thru the eye of the pick. Maybe I can put on a rubber grip of some kind. Anyway,it's a keeper.
